An international project titled Zero Waste Valorisation of Feldspathic Ores: Green Application and Sustainable Sourcing of Strategic Raw Materials (POTASSIAL), which is supported by ERA-MIN3 2021 Call Program, is being carried out at İnönü University Department of Mining Engineering. The main aim of this three-year international project, which started in April 2022, is to develop zero-waste metallurgical methods for the sustainable production of high added value materials such as industrial quality KCl, KNO3, Al2O3, amorphous SiO2, CaSiO3 and SiC from natural potassium aluminum silicate ores.
In the project where İnönü University is the international coordinator, Fırat University (Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering), Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University (Department of Mining Engineering) and Eti Aluminum serve as our project partners. Our partners abroad are Luleå Technical University, Department of Civil, Environmental and Natural Resources Engineering (Sweden), Slovak Academy of Sciences, Institute of Geotechnics (Slovakia) and ElementSix (England). In order to evaluate the scientific and technical studies carried out within the scope of the POTASSIAL project, a three-day workshop will be held in Malatya between 6-8 June 2024, with the participation of all executives and researchers involved in the project and relevant stakeholders. The first day of this workshop, which will be held at İnönü University Congress and Culture Center, will focus on the presentations of the project partners’ progress reports; The second day was devoted to invited speeches of valuable scientists who made highly qualified contributions to their research fields and played an active role in our project.
